Funnily enough, my profession chose me and not the other way around. Being a bilingual American Israeli has made me a huge language nerd who constantly navigates intercultural complexities, bridges gaps, and facilitates communication. What started as a necessity has now blossomed into a source of intellectual delight.

What questions do you ask your clients before you start translating a document?

How do you translate a given text?

There are multiple stages. First, I provide clients with a small translation sample to see if there is a good fit between us, and we coordinate expectations. Then,

I create an initial draft of the translation as I read the text. I note terms and complex ideas that I want to revisit later.

I compare the draft to the source to identify any omissions.

I read the updated draft, research terms and complex ideas, correct errors, and improve the phrasing. I then send the clients comments and questions to make sure I understand their intentions.

I take a break from the text and focus on other tasks. The next day, I read the text with fresh eyes, email the draft with all my remaining comments and questions, and study my clients’ responses.

I do a final proofreading before submission. I send the translation to the clients and ask them to confirm it represents their voice in the best way possible.

 

How do you edit a given text?

I revise the text in my first, second, third, and fourth readings. I check grammar, punctuation, logical structure, and style. As I work, I ask my clients many questions to ensure we are always on the same page. Editing is usually priced per hour.

What do you NOT translate or edit?

Scientific research, technical subjects requiring specific expertise, and legal or medical materials. If you need translations of such documents, please get in touch with me, and I will connect you with translators who specialize in these subjects.

What are your favorite subjects to translate and edit?

favorites are anything to do with the humanities, social sciences, literature, and poetry. In recent years, I have also specialized in translating and editing psychology and psychoanalysis research, which I love!

 

About Me

My mother is from the USA and my father is Ukrainian. Of all the places in the world, they chose to settle in the Israeli desert town of Beer Sheva, which led to endless hilarious and disastrous communication clashes. My knack for languages and cultural sensitivity helped me (and my family) since I was a child and I continuously immersed myself in the diverse and fascinating aspects of Hebrew and English.

I’ve mentioned that the profession chose me, and I am very glad that it did! My education includes a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in NGO Management. I am also a certified translator and content editor, recognized by the Association of Translators in Israel. Additionally, I studied community interpreting in Austin, Texas, which brings me to the next point. I resided in Texas and California for three years with my quantum physicist husband and our young daughter. Life in my second homeland was beautiful and enriching. I learned a lot, but I love being home again in Israel.
